Tempest Tintype is an ongoing photographic project by Photographer Scott Adamson, dedicated to the historic wet plate collodion process and the creation of one-of-a-kind tintype portraits in Ottawa Ontario.
Working from a studio in Almonte, Ontario, and through pop-up portrait events in Ottawa and surrounding communities, Tempest Tintype creates hand-made photographs using techniques and materials that have remained largely unchanged since the 1850s.
In a time when most photographs exist only briefly on screens, Tempest Tintype seeks to create images that are tangible, enduring, and deeply personal. Each portrait is crafted entirely by hand, resulting in a singular original object made of silver on metal—an heirloom photograph designed to be held, displayed, and passed down through generations.
